Lallybroch (Midhope Castle)

... from Katerina in Scotland Visits 2351 23 June, 2020

The dream came true was a visit to Midhope Castle, also known as Lallybroch. The place is popular from the series "Outlander". I think that only a real fan of the series would understand the thrill and emotion of crossing the threshold of Lallybroch, sitting on the front steps and staring at the portal…

Midhope Castle was built in the 15th century, and the first official data about it are in the distant 1458. It is located on private land near the village of Abercorn and from 1600 until now the abandoned castle remains almost the same.

In 2013 was chosen as the film location of the series Outlander, where the birthplace of the main character Jamie Fraser is. Surprisingly for me, the castle is just like the one in the movie, so it was just amazing to be there. It is good to know that the castle itself is not entered. The place is quiet and peaceful and especially if you are a fan, it is worth visiting!

There is an entrance fee and a small car park where you can park.
