Museum of olive oil "Sotirelis" on the island of Thassos

The olive Oil Museum of the Sotirelis family is a place that we do not miss to visit when we are on Thassos island. It is located in the mountainous village of Panagia, which is a small and pleasant village, suitable for walking.

In 1915 the Sotirelis family began producing olive oil with the help of a water mill. The water from the three mountain springs in the area was used for its propulsion. It drives the wheel of the mill and the machines that process the olives. Today it is the last water mill of this species, which is still operating all over Greece. Of course, the factory improved and upgraded with each passing year. In the museum part you can see machines created over time in order to improve the quality of the olive oil as well as its speed production. Olive oil has been produced here until 2007 year.

Besides the museum part you can also visit the shop, where you can try and buy from the cold pressed olive oil. There are also different types of cosmetics to test. The store has exhibited many photos and projected a short film to acquaint you with the accuracy of how the whole olive oil production process is taking place - from olive harvesting to oil bottling.

To the right of the store you can taste and buy olives. My favorite olives! It's only because of them that I don't miss visiting the museum every time we're on the island. I definitely recommend you to visit and try!
