The zoo in Sibiu is the oldest zoo in Romania. It is among the best there and is very popular with the locals. It is located in a beautiful forest setting, around a large lake near Dumbrava Sibiului Natural Park (which unfortunately we have not been able to visit, because of bad weather conditions).
The zoo hosts over 200 animals - monkeys, bears, white wolves, carpathian wolves, foxes, tigers, lions, jaguars, cougar, feral pigs, lamas, carpathian deer, white buffalo, pony, pythons, crocodiles, pheasants, parrots, pigeons, etc. Pay attention also to the 600 year old oak at the beginning of the entrance to the zoo.
Besides looking at the animals, you can walk around the lake, ride a boat and eat something. It was a place that surprised me with how well it is maintained and how beautiful it is. Definitely worth a visit!
During our visit to Romania, the locals had recommended that we go to lake Vidraru. It was definitely not on my list of places I wanted to visit in the transylvanian part of Romania, but once the locals directed us to it, we had to go.
ExploreLocated near Brasov, 200 meters above the town of Rasnov, on the top of a rocky hill, the Rasnov fortress is one of the most visited medieval attractions in Romania.
