The Sphinx and Babele are on the list of the seven natural wonders of Romania and are one of the most visited places in the country. They are located in mount Bucegi, which belongs to the Carpathians mountain range.
The Sphinx is a natural rock formation and is located at 2216 meters altitude. Under the effect of wind and erosion the rock has acquired an unusual shape, resembling the ancient Egyptian sphinx. There are a lot of mystical theories that talk about it and how the "face" appeared in the rock.
In the vicinity of the Sphinx are located other rock formations in the form of a sponge formed as a result of erosion of rocks of varying hardness. They are known under the name Babbele, which in translation means "old women".
How to get to them? One option is by lift from the city of Busteni, but this proved to be a real challenge on busy days off. The lift is a gondola, but as far as I could see there were two, which led to a great delay. Every 20 minutes there was a gondola that accommodates about 20 people, and on the day of our visit the tail was quite long and we had to wait about 2 hours, only to go up to the top. The other option to get there is by car. From the town of Sinaia you take the direction "Bucegi National Park". Here the navigation can help you. It makes an asphalt road about an hour to the barrier, from where begins the path to the Sphinx and Babele. To get to them with three little children, take a look and go back, took us about 2 hours of pleasant walk with beautiful views. And all the rock formations were really impressive.
The beautifully preserved fortress of Fagaras is located in the town of Fagaras, located between the towns of Sibiu and Brasov in the romanian region of Transylvania.
