Vidraru lake

... from Katerina in Romania Visits 2649 1 June, 2020

During our visit to Romania, the locals had recommended that we go to lake Vidraru. It was definitely not on my list of places I wanted to visit in the transylvanian part of Romania, but once the locals directed us to it, we had to go. And I'm glad we did.

To get to the lake, we passed through the town of Curtea de Arges. About 25 km away from it, shortly before we reach the lake, is the real castle of Count Dracula – Poienari Castle. Unfortunately, at the time of our visit, the place was closed because of the presence of bears in the area and as far as I understood, they were securing the place. The fortress remains on the list to visit for another time.

Lake Vidraru is an artificial lake in Romania, created for the production of hydroelectricity. It was established in 1965 on the Arges river, in the Fagaras mountain. At the bottom of it is a submerged village.

If you have some free time to spend there, you can take a boat trip and enjoy the natural landscapes and tranquility.
