The Golesti Museum is located 10 km from Pitesti, on the left bank of the Arges river, in the village of Golesti, Romania.
The museum existed since the middle of XX century and was created in an area with many historical traditions. It is divided into two main sections – Museum of viticulture and fruit growing in Romania and historical museum.
The Museum of viticulture and fruit-growing is one of the biggest and most important museums in Romania, unique in Europe by thematic profile. It is located on an open area in the amount of 100 acres. There you can explore the homes of the peasants who form a whole village in the area with a church in its center. For every family besides the house in which it lived, you can also look at all the facilities and tools that have helped their professions: agriculture, beekeeping, livestock, etc.
In the historical museum you can see four permanent exhibitions: a section on ethnography and folk art of Arges county, a school, a memorial exhibition of the Golesti family mansion, and the historical part.
The Golesti family has been prominent personalities in the history of Romania and contributed a lot to the development of Romanian culture. Their house, built in 1640, was renovated between 1942-1943, creating a museum in the mansion. The memorial exhibition includes ancient furniture, books, paintings, belonging to the Golesti family and their close relatives. In general, the museum includes a heritage of great value, consisting of about 32 000 museum objects and over 130 objects of rural architecture in the XVIII, XIX and XX centuries.
The outdoor walk in the village is very pleasant. You can spend hours in the village and the well-tended gardens and lawns. Children can enjoy a pony ride, as well as an outdoor playground. For adults, horse riding is offered in the mansion's park, where you can enjoy both the fresh air and the beauty of the trees, the orchards and flowers.
