Monastery "St. Archangel Michael" On Thassos is another of the places we visit regularly when we are on the island. It is built on top of 250 meters high cliff above the sea shore, near the village of Theologos and is the largest and most popular monastery of Thassos.
The main reason we love to drop by every time in this place is the magnificent view of the Aegean Sea and the peninsula of Mount Athos. You can view photos from the gallery or video to see how relaxed and romantic atmosphere has provided for the visitors (and you can sweeten the place extra with a piece of Turkish delight).
There is no clear exact date when the monastery was built. The first discovered data on it were found in the official journal from 1287. In 1974, nuns moved into it and refreshed it. Since then the monastery became a female.
It preserves a large collection of religious objects, the most valuable of which is a piece of the nail from the cross of the Crucifixion of Christ, with which the right hand was nailed.
This is a place worth visiting at any time of the year and at any time of the day. Keep in mind that here have rules according to which visitors should dress - long trousers for men and long skirts and covered shoulders for women. Do not worry, if you do not meet the rules, from the entrance you will be dressed appropriately. There is a parking lot and the entrance for visitors is free.
